Breaking Down the Expensive Brands
1. California Breath
The first toothpaste we will look at is California Breath, a brand created by Dr. Harold Katz of Hollywood.
The ultimate goal of this product, besides giving your mouth a clean feelings, is fighting halitosis (bad breath) and cavities all at the same time.
The verdict?
A little underwhelming The ingredients in California breath are standard to supermarket toothpastes:
- Water
- Abrasive silica
- Flavoring (such as peppermint oil)
- Xylitol
Therefore, we conclude California Breath to be over-priced.
2. Theodent
This chocolate-flavored toothpaste can be quite expensive for simply a tube of toothpaste. You can find it online currently for about $14.99 a tube.
But what makes Theodent so luxurious?
According to the Theodent’s website, their toothpaste excels at “Harnessing the power of the cocoa bean, Theodent classic boasts a non-toxic and revolutionary alternative to fluoride.”
The verdict?
We are not convinced that a fluoride-free toothpaste is the way to go.
Without fluoride, there is no “decay-preventing effect” which is what you want in a toothpaste.
So while the design may be unique and thinking about a type of cocoa bean in your toothpaste may be fun, it does not merit the excess cost.
3. Enamel Rebuilder
This toothpaste is called Regenerate Enamel Science toothpaste..
The claim made here is that Regenerate is “the first dental care system able to reverse the erosion process.’
The intention is that the ingredients within the toothpaste form a fresh and new supply of enamel mineral which will bind to the teeth.
But does it actually work?
The verdict?
Finally, it looks like there is solid reasoning behind the cost of this toothpaste.
This toothpaste was made after ten years of extensive research and scientific studies all of which provide evidence of what the product is doing.
However, the name may be a little misleading. You are not going to perfectly regrow enamel. However, it does add a new coating of minerals over the teeth which seem to be essentially indistinguishable from actual enamel.
Therefore, for this toothpaste, there is good reason for the higher price.
